Day 3: "I Can't Feel My Face When I'm With You"

I have no quotes today! :(

I have never been more tired. I slept a total of 3 hours last night due to a bad case of FOMO (fear of missing out). There is so much to do  and not nearly enough time. This morning I saw Paul Dano's Wildlife. It was slow and static. The camera hardly ever moved and most of the frames were symmetrical. Wildlife was good, but I did not understand the characters and their motivations were unclear. This ambiguity was intentional, so was the slow pace, it just was not for me. Overall, the film seemed safe narratively. It was slow and it was boring, frankly. However, I did like the originality of the camera work. I don't know if originality is the right word though. The frames were symmetrical a la Wes Anderson and the static camera was reminiscent of pre-sound classic Hollywood. It was clearly the movie of someone with a lot of film history knowledge.

Then we saw 2 Hours From Paris, it was a sad, wild, French version of Mamma Mia. It was also okay? There was way too many unnecessary inserts of music over car scenes. There was probably more b-roll than narrative dialogue. It just needed more narrative. Also the ages of the actresses made no sense. Overall, I liked what content there was.

RYAN COOGLER!

Coogler was so humble and kind. Also The Weeknd was there. He was introduced and  very slyly told that he was an auteur. Overall, I'm so glad that I was able to see him talk from the second row!!
