Day 12: Last Day, Best Day
The last day of the festival was incredibly bittersweet and empty. Unfortunately, I was only able to watch one movie. In the morning I picked up Rona and I’s first reviews from Sarah. I told her I was going to watch Knife and Heart and she informed me that it was basically a 70’s porn. I decided to watch it anyway. Kyle Buchanan had been tweeting about the film and I trusted his opinion. I have never been more wrong. Knife and Heart was the most insane thing I have ever watched and I waited in line to watch it for 2 hours. I keep searching for positive aspects of the film but I think I am only a fan of the lighting and the costuming. There were also a few cool camera shots and narrative juxtapositions that were very interesting. One of the spinning camera shots nearly made me throw up and I was in the middle of the row by myself so I couldn’t do anything about it.
Before film we begged for tickets for the closing ceremony for maybe 20 minutes but then I gave up because I was so bored. The entire Palais was so empty yesterday and most of the stuff was closing down.
Looking back, the festival seemed so short. Overall, I watched over 20 films, saw Eric Kohn speak twice and went to Ryan Coogler’s talk as well. I also saw a few actors and missed so many trains.
